Have you ever imagined trading the concrete gray and city noise for a serene glide atop a natural aquarium? If you truly want to experience the famous tranquility of Akyaka and feel one with nature, your journey starts right here. At the heart of Akyaka's postcard-perfect landscapes and unique calm lies the Azmak River. A boat tour on this river is no ordinary trip; it's a magical journey into another dimension, where you connect with life both above and below the water. In this article, we'll guide you through the best things to do on an Azmak River Tour in Akyaka and show you why this unique experience deserves the top spot on your holiday list. No need to fasten your seatbelts—on this ride, there's only peace and serenity!
Glide through the aquarium-like waters of the "Kadın Azmağı"
As you walk from the center of Akyaka towards the river, your adventure begins the moment you step onto one of the charming little boats waiting for you. These boats, typically 8-10 meters long with a capacity for about 25 people, will take you on a 25 to 40-minute journey along the river's magical 2-kilometer route. What truly sets this tour apart, however, is the absence of engine noise. Since the Azmak River is a designated Special Environmental Protection Area, all 23 boats here have been converted to eco-friendly systems powered by solar and electricity, creating no noise or pollution. This means that instead of a roaring motor, you'll only hear the gentle lapping of the water, the rustle of the reeds in the wind, and the chirping of birds, allowing you to silently glide on the water accompanied by nature's symphony.
During your journey, you'll often hear the name "Kadın Azmağı," which translates to "Woman's Creek," and it has a touching story. In the old days, before homes had running water, the local women would come to the clear waters of this river to do their laundry. The river was a part of their lives, a place to meet and socialize. That's why it became known among the locals as "Kadın Azmağı". This journey on the river, whose ancient name was "Idymus," is not just a trip into nature but also a voyage into the living culture and history of the region.

This pristine beauty you see is no accident. Strict rules implemented to protect the Azmak ensure the survival of this delicate ecosystem. Everything is under control, from the number of boats and their speed (a maximum of 2.5 knots upstream and 5 knots downstream) to their engine specifications and noise levels. This is one of the finest examples of how tourism can protect nature instead of destroying it. By joining this tour, you're not just collecting wonderful memories; you're also directly supporting this sustainable tourism model and the preservation of this natural paradise.
Watch the rich underwater flora and fish
As your boat moves silently forward, the real spectacle begins beneath your feet. The water of the Azmak River is so clear that you can distinctly see every stone and piece of seaweed on the riverbed, even at depths reaching 8-10 meters. It's like an underwater botanical garden. Long, green aquatic plants sway to the rhythm of the current, making you feel as if you're drifting through an underwater forest. It's in these moments that you understand how fitting the "natural aquarium" comparison truly is. This view not only offers aesthetic beauty but also serves as living proof of how healthy and clean the river is.
The inhabitants of this natural aquarium will accompany you throughout the tour. Keep your eyes peeled, because you'll see schools of mullet, sea bass, and trout swimming right beside the boat. Fishing is strictly forbidden in the river, which has allowed the fish population to thrive without fear. It's not just fish; you'll also see water turtles sunbathing among the reeds and families of ducks and geese gliding leisurely by. If you're very lucky, you might even spot an adorable otter, an endangered species that is now rarely seen. Every creature here is a testament to how rich and balanced this ecosystem is.

This freshwater paradise of the Azmak River meets the salty waters of the Aegean just a stone's throw away. After your river tour, you can enjoy the sea at the famous (https://www.yerelrehber.com/en/explore/things-to-do/akyaka-beach), located just a few steps away. This gives you the unique opportunity to enjoy both fresh and saltwater on the same day.
Refresh yourself with a swim break in the river's cool waters
One of the most exciting moments of the tour is the chance to meet the river's cool waters. But are you brave enough to dive into this icy stream? Especially during the sweltering heat of summer, letting yourself go in the mineral-rich, soda-like waters of the Azmak is truly a rejuvenating experience. The sharp cold you feel upon first entry quickly gives way to an incredible sense of vigor and refreshment. There's a local belief that this water rejuvenates and beautifies the skin. While there's no scientific proof, the energy and freshness you'll feel after getting out of the water seem to confirm this tale.
Although you might hear claims that the Azmak's water is "8 degrees year-round," the reality is slightly different. Scientific measurements show that the river's average annual water temperature is 16.08∘C, dropping to a low of 14.7∘C in winter and exceeding 23∘C in summer. What does this mean? Yes, the water is always cool and invigorating, but especially towards the end of summer, it's not as freezing as you might fear. This information will help you set your expectations and enjoy this unique experience more comfortably.

If you decide to take a swimming break, safety should be your top priority. The boat traffic on the river can be heavy, especially during high season. Therefore, you should choose to swim in calmer, safer coves away from the main boat route. Even though the boats move slowly, it's always wise to be cautious given the number of them on the river.

Pizza fellas; Akyaka da denenmesi gereken lezzet. Çalışanlar güler yüzlü, açık mutfakta pizzalar yapılıyor. Yarısı rozbif, yarısı tavuklu pizza söyledik. İnce hamurlu, lezzetliydi. Hamuru kalın olmadığından rahatsız etmiyor. Masalar sürekli dolu. Fiyatlar böyle bir lezzete göre normal. İki kişiye bir pizza yeterli. (8 dilim.) Biz çok beğendik. Birde meşhur pizzaları patlıcanlı pizzayı da deneyin derim. ?
