Mimar Sinan, Şehzadebaşı Külliyesi'ni yaparken Eyüp'ten Sarayburnu'na İstanbul'un geometrik merkezini de hesaplaşmıştır. Çeşitli ölçümlerden sonra orta noktanın Şehzadebaşı Külliyesi'ndeki Şehzade Mehmet Türbesi'nin yanına rastladığını belirlemiş ve oraya bir taş dikmiştir. Bu nokta bugün Şehzadebaşı ile Dedeefendi Caddeleri'nin kesiştiği noktadaki Şehzadebaşı Camii'nin dış duvarının köşesine rastlar. Güney ve doğu duvarlarının birleştiği bu noktada altı ve üstü demir millere oturtulmuş, böylelikle dönen yeşil somaki bir mermer sütun bulunmaktadır. Sütun, yol seviyesinin yükseltilmesi ve asfaltın sütunu kapatması sebibiyle artık dönmemektedir.
