sinagogun 1703 ve 1813 yıllarında yangın felaketi geçirip büyük hasar gördüğü anlaşılmaktadır. Etz Ahayim Sinagogu bahçesinde ayrıca, günlük ibadetin icra edildiği üç tane de midraş (küçük sinagog) mevcuttur. Günümüz sinagog binası bunlardan ikisinin, Tulumbacılar - Tenekeciler Loncasına ait Midraş Haverim ile Midraş Teilim’ in birleştirilmesiyle elde edilmiştir. Halen sinagog bahçesinde bulunan Midraş Naftali'nin girişinde Ribi Naftali ben Isaac ha-Kohen Katz’a ithaf edilmiş bir plaket mevcuttur. 1990’lı yılların başında cemaat mensuplarının Ortaköy civarı, Ulus, Etiler ve Akatlar semtlerine yönelik yerleşme tercihleri sonucu yörede nüfusun yoğunlaşması üzerine, hem küçük kalan hem de çok eskimiş bulunan sinagog binasının yenilenerek 20 Mart 1994 Pazar günü Minha duasıyla ibadete açıldı. Etz Ahayim Sinagogu Anıtlar Kurulu'nun 27 Kasım 1960 tarih ve 1443 sayılı kararı ile korunması gereken eser olarak tescil edilmiştir.
