Hours of Mosque History
The construction date was not known, but was built by the Church of Ayos İanni by the Greek Cypriots in the second half of the 19th century. With the abandonment of the district, it was transformed into a mosque after 1928. A minaret was built in the garden of the structure, except for the painting of the icons in it. After the collapse of the bell tower in the 1944 earthquake, the bell tower of the building, which takes the name of the Saatli Mosque, still exists. There are square clocks in the north and south of the tower and round watches in the east and west. The columns at the entrance of the mosque, which is entered with six steps, are compatible with the clock tower and minaret. The main place of worship is covered with a dome. The dome pulley includes deaf dome windows accompanying the lighting windows. The windows located on both floors of the gallery structure and around the entrance are framed with garlic stone. The minaret added to the garden was built of garlic stone. The middle part of the building, which was built with the Greek cross plan, is covered with a small dome and the branches of the cross with vaults.
