If you're looking for a place where the heart of Izmir beats and the energy never fades, where do you turn your route? The answer is simple: Alsancak. But are you ready to explore every corner of this district like a local, to go beyond just window shopping and truly touch the soul of its streets? Most visitors stick to the main avenues, but the real magic of Alsancak begins when you slip through the crowds and dive into the side streets. This guide is here to offer you not just the well-known spots, but the most special items on the list of things to do in the vibrant streets of Alsancak.
If you're ready, we're embarking on a three-step discovery tour that starts from the city's most bustling avenue, passes through venues that keep the rhythm of the night, and finally leads you to a peaceful coffee break. The energy of Alsancak awaits you!
Feel the energy and crowds of Kıbrıs Şehitleri Avenue
If we were to compare Alsancak to a body, Kıbrıs Şehitleri Avenue would undoubtedly be its main artery—its heart. Bustling at all hours of the day, this avenue reflects the purest form of Izmir's dynamic spirit. Being pedestrian-only, it's not just a thoroughfare but also a space for socializing, discovering, and enjoying.
As you walk down the avenue, take a moment to stop and listen to your surroundings: the melodies of a street musician from one corner, the laughter of people spilling out from cafes, and the whispers of historic buildings alongside modern shops... Here, international brands as well as local boutiques, art galleries, and bookstores will catch your eye. The shops lining the avenue make it one of Izmir's most popular shopping destinations. Kıbrıs Şehitleri is the perfect starting point for your Alsancak adventure. This avenue gives you a feel for the district's general atmosphere and prepares you for the more special experiences you're about to dive into. Soak in the energy, because this is just the beginning!

Enjoy an evening at a venue on Gazi Kadınlar Street
As the sun sets and the daytime crowd of Kıbrıs Şehitleri Avenue slowly shifts into evening mode, the energy of Alsancak moves to a completely different street: Gazi Kadınlar Street. This is where the district's daytime cheer transforms into the exuberant fun of the night. The sounds of music spilling from the bars, pubs, and taverns lined along this narrow street create an atmosphere that instantly draws you in.
This street offers an "evening adventure" for every taste. Instead of just listing venues, let's help you choose the best place for your mood:
For Live Music and Dancing: If you have high energy and want to dance to pop-rock tunes, Bios Bar, one of the street's popular spots, is perfect for you. It will add excitement to your night with its delicious cocktails and dynamic atmosphere.
For a Traditional Night: If you're thinking, "Let's enjoy some rakı and meze with live traditional music," the authentic atmosphere of Şımarık Meyhane, located in an old Greek house, will take you on a journey back in time.
For a Chic and Quiet Conversation Spot: If you prefer to experience the night's rhythm more calmly, enjoying good food and pleasant background music while chatting, the elegant and high-quality environment of 1888 Bar & Lounge might be just what you're looking for.

Discover a boutique cafe in the backstreets of Alsancak
After the high energy of the night, Alsancak has another face to show you: the peace and warmth hidden in its backstreets. To discover the true soul of the district, you need to be willing to get a little lost and venture into those narrow alleys. As the locals of Izmir say, some backstreets may have a more bohemian vibe, bearing the marks of time; however, the city's most creative and welcoming spots are hidden between these worn walls.
Among the dozens of boutique cafes you'll encounter on this journey of discovery, we've selected three special stops that appeal to different moods:
For True Coffee Aficionados: Turning coffee into an art form, Coffeemamma Roastery & Barista Shop is one of the pioneers of third-wave coffee culture in Izmir. A cup of coffee here might make you forget all the coffees you've ever had.
For a Warm and Cozy Break: With its budget-friendly prices, friendly service, and charming decor, Sea Coffee is a place where you'll feel right at home. Taking a latte break, especially with their famous "wet cake," is the perfect way to unwind.
For Nostalgia Lovers:Münire, which transports you to your grandmother's house the moment you step in, offers a unique experience with its antique furniture, old soda bottles, and traditional presentations. Having a Turkish coffee here is like a sweet journey into the past.
These venues in Alsancak take the passion for coffee to the next level. If you're curious about other special spots in the city, be sure to check out our list of Izmir's most unique 3rd wave coffee shops.
